Social Security Spousal Benefits: What Living Spouses May Be Missing

Rusty’s answer

A free webinar on how spousal benefits work — and what you may be entitled to!

Are you — or is your spouse — leaving Social Security money on the table? If you're married, divorced, or simply unsure how spousal benefits work, you're not alone. Many Americans are unaware of the full range of Social Security spousal benefits available to them, and the rules can be confusing.

That's why the AMAC Foundation is hosting a free webinar to help participants understand how spousal benefits work, determine their eligibility, and learn what factors can affect their monthly payments.

When: Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 12:00 PM ET

In this session, attendees will learn:

  • Whether they are eligible for a Social Security spousal benefit
  • How benefit amounts are determined
  • Key factors that can affect monthly payments
  • Important information for both current and former spouses

"Spousal benefits are one of the most overlooked areas of Social Security," said Deborah Dunlap, Social Security Advisor at the AMAC Foundation. "We regularly speak with people who had no idea they were eligible — or who didn't realize their timing could significantly affect their monthly benefit. This webinar is designed to break it all down in plain language so attendees leave with a clear understanding of what they may be entitled to."

According to the Social Security Administration, spousal benefits can provide up to 50% of a worker's primary insurance amount. Yet many eligible spouses either fail to claim these benefits or do not understand how timing may affect what they receive.

The webinar is free and open to the public; AMAC membership is not required.

This is Part 1 of a two-part series. Part 2, "Advanced Strategies for Multiple Marriages, Divorce, Remarriage," will be held on April 30, 2026.
